Standing Wool Circles

Since my friend, Maria (Star Rug Co.) mentioned that I showed her how to make these circles and work them into her hooking, I've had several inquiries on how it's done. So I've put together a simple tutorial on how to.

To work it in with your hooking start with strips cut the width that you'll be hooking with. Simply roll up the strip to resemble a jelly roll.

Wind it up tightly. Two different colors work well together for a different look. Just lay them together and wind them up.

Once the circle is the size you want, thread a needle and sew the circle by going through it back and forth, like the spokes on a wheel. This secures the circle and keeps it from falling apart.

Next sew the circle in place directly onto your rug hooking backing.

Now simply do your hooking around the circle.

Next are a few photos where I've used this technique. Maria has used them as spots on her lamb and dog. It's just a fun way to add another texture to your hooking. If you try it, send me a photo and I'll share it for the others to see. Have fun!

Purse Class

After choosing one of 6 designs, and the wool, Bev & Evelyn hooked the panels for their new leather totes. Both plan to do more panels so they can switch them out. Evelyn wants to use the shoulder bags and hook monograms for each of her daughters. Great idea! Can't wait to see them completed. You can find the bags on the website, to make your own one of a kind bag.

Granddaughter Dresses

A fun and easy way to make special dresses for my girls was to buy ready made dresses and add that special touch by embellishing them with needle felting. Too cute!

New Year, New Look

After Christmas was put away, I dismantled my dining room. Then I preped, primed, and painted. Something that was long overdue. Now putting it back together, I'm making some changes, by not putting as much back in. I'm using these old tool boxes to house grandkids toys, games, and books. The small box has a small recessed panel that I always planned to hook a small mat for, so last night, I did. Next are hooked cornice boards above the windows, then on to the living room!

Snow, Snow, Snow

Like many others, we've been having snow and have been in a deep freeze. Had to get a few photos which included my stoneware cardinal. These birds and sheep will soon be available on the website. A bright spot on the grey days.
