Rug Repair

Several weeks ago a gentelman brought me a rug wanting to know if I'd repair it.  His mother had done it years ago and he wanted to use it again.

I've never done this before, but the hole was small and I thought I'd give it a try.  Well, I won't do it again, but the results were good and he was thrilled.  It took me about 3 hours repairing this hole, the size of a quarter.

I hand stitched a patch of linen to the back, then did more stitching on the top securing the linen.  I had to remove more of the hooking, and tried to work that wool back in.  It was hard to use because it was shredding apart.  I then finished filling the patch with wool I had, trying to match it as best as possible.  Finally steam pressing the area.  It has definitely given me a great appreciation for Jessie Turbayne and others who do this on a grand scale.

  1. I think you did a fabulous job! I have 3 rugs of my grandmother's that are virtual train wrecks. I will get them done eventually, but your post is an inspiration.
